Chimney Rock is like a balcony on the top of a mountain. It s in the west part of North Carolina at Chimney Rock State Park near Asheville.

It is so famous because of its breathtaking view. Its spectacular scenery is caught Hollywood’s eye, too. Scenes from a number of movies have been filmed in the Park, including The Last of the Mohicans, Firestarter, and A Breed Apart.

We, as two families from Chapel Hill, decided to make a 2-day-road-trip and began with the Chimney Rock.

The spectacular view

For the adventure-seekers, you can hike to the top of this towering 315-foot rock formation via the Outcroppings trail. However, we are looking for a less intense journey. Therefore, we used the elevator while climbing it and stairs during turning back. The elevator is a useful option for families with kids because trails are really tough and long.

When we arrived at the top of the chimney rock, we enjoyed the amazing view. It is said that from its top, you can soak in the 75-mile panoramic views of Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure. The forest of the Blue Ridge Mountains looks like a green carpet. It is quiet and peaceful.

The Cost

There is an entrance fee for the state park (Adult $17, kids $8). There is no additional or unexpected cost in the area. All is included the price such as car parking, elevator, shuttle services from the car parking area to trails, restrooms, etc.
