It is a cemetery but not ordinary. It is one of the country’s oldest national cemeteries. The cemetery’s rolling hills mark the final resting place for more than 14,000 veterans, including those who fought in the Civil War.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, one of Arlington’s most well-known memorials, includes the remains of unknown service members from World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. According to the web page of Arlington National Cemetery, Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) keep a 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year vigil at the Tomb, with an elaborate ritual to change the guard every hour (every half hour during summer).
Moreover, there are two presidents buried in the cemetery, President William Howard Taft (1857-1930) and John F. Kennedy (1917-1963). There are memorials, gravesites for the presidents in the cemetery.
We noticed that cemetery is secured well. We have never seen this kind of security check except in airports. You should be ready for an identity check and X-ray machine check. Another thing that we noticed, the cemetery is well kept. There are beautiful gardens, trees, and grasses which make people peaceful.
